Past Activities

Some of the issues on which SATA has taken action are as follows:

  • The provision of accessible taxis and taxicard schemes in Scotland - a survey of local authority provision followed by a Public Petition PE 568 to the Scottish Parliament and a campaign for improved services.
  • Accessible taxis at Scottish airports - correspondence with the British Airports Authority and airport managers.
  • Train announcements and ticket barriers - representations to First ScotRail on problems faced by disabled travellers.
  • Low floor buses - discussion with Stagecoach and other operators on their introduction and problems experienced by users.
  • Access to ferries - discussions with Caledonian MacBrayne and Northlink Ferries on improvements.
  • STAR (Scottish Travel Access Review) - initiating a major conference on accessible transport to mark the European Year of Disabled People 2003 which was held in Edinburgh and followed by the production of a Conference Report and Reference Paper.
  • Research commissioned by the Scottish Executive and others - obtaining the views of disabled people.
  • Policy consultations from the Disability Rights Commission, the European Commission, the Department for Transport, the Scottish Executive and others - submitting views.
